Floyd Brown's photo is on display inside the courthouse
An initiative that was approved by the Greene County Board of Supervisors to honor fallen military heroes will have a dedication ceremony tomorrow.
The Greene County Veteran’s Affairs Office and the American Legion Post #11 developed “Remembering Our Fallen Heroes” that honors local military veterans who have passed away or who were killed in action. The dedication ceremony will feature a permanent photo display of World War I veteran Floyd W. Brown who was a Jefferson native. He was called into active service on July 26, 1918 and was killed less than 24 hours after the Armistice signing on November 10, 1918. He is the namesake of the local American Legion Post.
The Supervisors approved a resolution for the display last November, and it also includes additional photos to be on display on a rotation basis of other deceased Greene County veterans. Lance Corporal Benjamin Carman’s photo will also be on display during the dedication ceremony. Carman served during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The event will be held tomorrow at 4pm on the first floor of the Greene County Courthouse. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and the courthouse being closed to be public, the ceremony will only be held for family members. However, organizers encourage everyone to view the display once the courthouse is opened to the public.
