The COVID-19 pandemic has forced a number of school-related activities to either be cancelled or postponed. For Paton-Churdan they are looking to keep one tradition going, but in a slightly different way.

P-C Principal Annie Smith tells Raccoon Valley Radio that due to COVID-19, they weren’t able to hold their annual Senior Mentor Banquet, but instead will be presenting the event digitally. She says each year high school seniors receive their awards and scholarships, and they are also challenged with identifying a mentor that made an impact on their educational life. The students write an essay about the mentor and read it at the event. However, this year, Smith points out, it will be done electronically.

“Our seniors have still chosen a mentor, they’ve written that paper, they’re recorded them presenting that as if they would (in-person). We’re going to put those together with our scholarship presentations.”

Smith says the event will happen later this week, where seniors and their families can enjoy it from the comfort of their homes. To hear more from Smith, listen to Wednesday’s Community State Bank in Paton Let’s Talk Greene County program.
