Less than one month after an initiative started in Greene County to collect face mask donations, organizers have scheduled a public distribution event.

Annie Smith is spearheading the Cover Greene County Initiative to ensure that every county resident has a face mask to wear to prevent spreading the 2019 novel coronavirus. She says the Board of Health will be distributing over 300 masks on a first-come, first-served basis from 5-6:30pm tomorrow in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Jefferson’s parking lot. Smith notes volunteers will be handing out masks, one per family member, while driving through the parking lot and keeping with social distancing recommendations.

Smith talks about why she wanted to organize and lead such an endeavor.

“One of the reasons why I wanted to take part in this is because public health is working hard, our healthcare workers in the county are working so hard during this time. So if there was something that I could do to alleviate that work for them.”

Smith appreciates all of the donations they are currently receiving and adds more donations are needed. She says if someone can’t make it to the distribution event to contact her about getting a mask.
