School Board Appreciation Month is being celebrated, and for the Guthrie Center School Board President, he has the unique experience of collaborating not only with his fellow Board members but that of the Adair-Casey School District.

Wes Policky has served on the Guthrie Center School Board for seven years, three of them as president, and prior to that the Nebraska native got involved with the District volunteering for the former Guthrie Center Booster Club. Policky says being a School Board Director has required taking in the opinions of other Board members and looking at all sides of an issue. Though he has three children enrolled in the two districts, Policky says serving on the Board has many times required him to look outside of his parenting role to the needs and desires of all students and families of his community, “It’s being a part of something bigger than just my own kids, quite honestly, and to be able to influence and make decisions based on what others share with me to ensure that we have an education program here in the AC/GC school districts for many years to come.”

Policky emphasizes that his fellow Board members Wanda Knobbe, Sarah Langgaard, Wilma Stetzel, and Tim Benson all have different skill sets and perspectives that he leans on to make decisions that affect the District, as well as those of the Adair-Casey School Board.
