With her most recent proclamation, Governor Kim Reynolds has allowed public libraries to reopen at 50% capacity, but a few local libraries are electing to remain closed a little longer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Both the Perry and Adel public libraries will stay closed to the public until social distancing recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) allow for gatherings of more than 10 people in any public space. The respective library directors made the announcements on social media over the weekend, but emphasized the services still available to their communities. Perry Library Director Mary Murphy says they’re continuing with curbside pickup with no due dates enforced. She also notes they have several online resources and that Children’s Librarian Suzanne Kestel is doing online story time on Tuesday and Thursday mornings through their website.

Adel Library Director Paula James similarly says they offer a multitude of online materials, as well as resources available by appointment. Additionally, as of this week the Adel Library is also offering a no-contact service for checking out books.
