A reminder to Jefferson residents that the Jefferson Matters: Main Street organization in partnership with the Greene County Chamber, will be hosting its Christmas tree lighting event at the courthouse tonight.
Deb McGinn with Jefferson Matters says the St. Joseph Catholic Church choir along with the United Methodist Church Bell Choir will be performing holiday music prior to when Santa and Mrs. Claus light the tree in the rotunda of the courthouse in downtown Jefferson at 5:30pm.
She explains why it’s important for Jefferson Matters to have an event like this for the public.
“We just thought it would be interesting and fun for the community to have something to come to downtown to at Christmas time. And a great way to start the season is to light the Christmas tree in the rotunda of the courthouse. A lot of people have never been in our courthouse (and) a lot of kids. And so we thought that would be a good way to get the kids in there too to see the courthouse.”
Plus she adds that people can shop in the local downtown businesses around the square and kids will be able to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus on top of the Mahanay Bell Tower from 6-7pm.
McGinn hopes to see everyone come to Jefferson for the Hometown Holiday Sparkle Community Christmas Tree Lighting event tonight.
