novel-coronavirus

As more information is learned about the 2019 novel coronavirus, new symptoms have been added to the growing list.

Greene County Family Practice Physician Dr. Laurie Connolly says the newest symptoms that have been associated with the virus include diarrhea and vomiting.

“They tend to be the people with more what they call mild symptoms. They’re of course not mild to those people but those symptoms tend to be in people that don’t have the real severe symptoms that end up in the intensive care unit or on a ventilator, for example.”

She notes the main symptoms of the virus include cough, fever, shortness of breath and muscle fatigue. Other symptoms of the virus are: headache and sore throat. Dr. Connolly points out even though there isn’t a new strain of COVID-19 that is affecting children, information now suggests the virus can.

“As we’re seeing the virus in more countries (and) getting more data we have just come to realize that kids can be infected also. They tend to have a lot more mild symptoms, so they would tend to have more of just the common cold.”

The most vulnerable population includes individuals over 60, anyone with an underlying illness and individuals with pre-existing medical conditions.
