Greene County student athletes Brent Dennhardt and McKinley Robbins and their families won’t have to drive nearly as far for training with Sebolt Wrestling Academy in the near future. The company recently purchased the Fieldhouse in Jefferson as their new home for about 70 elite wrestlers in grades 3 through high school. Dennhardt is in seventh grade and Robbins is a freshmen and they’ve been traveling to Mason City and Ames for years to train. Both have had great success on the club level, which has translated into wrestling success for the Greene County Rams.

TJ Sebolt will be moving to Jefferson with his wife and two young daughters. He talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about that. “As far as a timeline for me moving down and living in the community, we’re not 100% sure. I know we’d like it to be sooner rather than later. Obviously, we’ve got to sell our home and get a place to live figured out.”

There are also some building updates to be done. “We’d like to dress it up a little bit on the outside, and put some air conditioning in it. Maybe do some stuff on the inside as well, so we’ve got a project ahead of us, but we’re excited about it,” he added.

The building the Academy purchased has been the practice home of the Rams for middle school and high school, as well as the Ramblers wrestling club for youth. Starting this winter, the middle school and high school will practice in what is now the industrial tech area at the current high school, which is being converted into the middle school. The new high school being built on Jefferson’s northwest side is where the high school wrestling team will hold its home matches starting with the upcoming 2020-21 season.
