Greene County continues to show low numbers of positive COVID-19 cases.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Health as of Sunday Greene County had 13 positive cases of the virus and as of last week over 135 people have been tested and only one individual has been hospitalized. As more people get tested, Greene County Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Dr. Michael Line says they have a good supply of testing kits still in stock.

“We use two laboratories for our testing: one is the state hygienic lab and the other is a path lab in Ankeny through UnityPoint. Both of those facilities supply us with testing supplies as we use our stuff. So once we use a certain number of supplies we get restocked and for the foreseeable future we’re going to have plenty of supplies.”

Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf says there has been an increase of community spread of the virus within the county.

“Community spread means that a person can become ill with COVID-19 symptoms without really knowing who they came into contact with. So everybody needs to be at heightened awareness. We’re not surprised by the increased number, we knew it was going to come at some point.”

Wolf reminds everyone to continue to avoid crowds, maintain a six foot distance from others, stay home if sick and wear a mask when out of the home.
