It’s National Nurses Week and for the nursing profession, now is an important time as they are on the front lines battling against the 2019 novel coronavirus.
Greene County Medical Center Interim Chief Nursing Officer Debbie Saylor says even though over 150 nurses at the medical center deliver patient care due to COVID-19, the same principles remain in place in the nursing profession, including a commitment to patient care and dedication to keeping everyone safe.
“I think nurses are able to share in the way they provide care to people that actual love that transfers from the nurse, to their co-workers, to the physicians and providers and everyone who touches patients, but most especially their tender, loving care transfers directly onto their patients which actually supports their well-being.”
Saylor says the medical center is doing several activities this week in honor of National Nurses Week. Treats are being delivered to all of the nurses, there will be “Blessing of the Hands” ceremony at the medical center for nurses to participate in, nurses can take photos with a cardboard cutout of modern nursing founder Florence Nightingale as her 200th birthday will be on May 12th, a special award will be announced later this week and a video conference of “The Law, Nursing and COVID, Oh My” with a nationally renowned nurse attorney as the guest speaker to wrap up the week.
