While Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School seeks to hold its scheduled events for seniors this summer, it does come with some challenges.
Prom and graduation have been moved to June 27th and 28th, with back up dates of July 18th and 19th. Superintendent Dennis McClain shares the annual senior trip to Washington, D.C. that’s typically held in the spring has now been pushed to July 27 through August 2nd, due to the lack of D.C. locations being available. He says unfortunately not all of the seniors who planned to attend will be able to make the trip, “I think we’ve got some conflicts coming up now. We’ve got kids going off to school and things like that so the more it gets moved I think the more we’re going to have issues with that. And so we’ll kind of see where it’s at when we get closer to it if the sites are going to be available and then we’ll just take the students that we can take.”
McClain says he is unsure what the refund policy will be for those not going on the trip. For other summer events, the District is awaiting guidance from the Iowa Department of Education on holding drivers’ education classes, though the Iowa Department of Transportation has informed that remote classes can be taught for the learning portion. In the meantime, the District continues it’s voluntary learning plan, lasting until May 22nd.
