The pet boarding business is just one industry adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, though one local operation understands that their worries are small compared to those who have contracted the virus.
With that in mind, Amy Heinz – owner of AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport and Gracie’s Place Boarding and Grooming in DeSoto – has opened her facility to pets of those hospitalized for coronavirus. “You know, God gave us this big, beautiful building and it’s sitting empty, and it’s our way of helping the community. So if somebody has to be hospitalized and they don’t have a plan for their pet, we will take care of them for free while they get the care they need. We have a lot of elderly in our community where their only companion is a pet, and sometimes they won’t go to the doctor because they don’t know what to do with their pet. And I don’t want to see that happen, so we’ll give them a place to board.”
Heinz says residents of Dallas County will have priority if available space becomes an issue, but adds that since people aren’t frequently travelling at the moment there are many vacancies.
