Many Perry residents have likely already started mowing their lawns as the weather has improved and the grass has gotten longer this month, but starting in May is when they’ll be required to start lawn maintenance.

At that time the City staff will start enforcing the grass, weed, and brush ordinance. According to the City code, greenery must not exceed certain height restrictions. For residential, business, and industrial areas, grass, weed, and brush cannot exceed eight-inches, while in agricultural areas the limit is 15-inches. The ordinance will be checked on the first and third Wednesdays of each month between May and October. If any property is found in violation, it will be mowed by the City and the property owner will be charged a substantial fee. The ordinance applies to all property within City limits, whether it’s vacated or occupied.
