In their effort to respond to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Perry recently sought federal aid through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), which they were awarded.
The City submitted a Response and Recovery program application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority, which included funding requests for various civic and nonprofit entities in Perry. The IEDA approved the full amount CDBG funds, $39,356.40, which will support the Perry Area Food Pantry, the Parks and Recreation Department, the Perry Public Library, and Perry Lutheran Homes. City Administrator Sven Peterson says there will be a public hearing to officially accept the grant, but he felt it was something the City couldn’t pass up in order to help the community. “All-in-all (it was) a great opportunity, (and) I’ve got to give a shout-out to Mike Fastenau, our Community and Economic Development Director, for being the person to put all that information together and get that application in. (He was a) huge help with that and spearheading that whole project. So we’ll get through our public hearing and hopefully get some of that equipment implemented within the community.”
The public hearing will be held during the regular Council meeting on May 4th. To learn more about this and other City of Perry topics, click the links below to listen to the recent two-part Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program with Peterson.
