Emergency crews responded to a car versus train collision in Guthrie County last week.

According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at 1:38 p.m. on Thursday, April 16th when 56-year-old Scott David Jorgensen of Adair was driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Indigo Avenue from White Pole Road, west of Casey. Jorgensen failed to yield to an eastbound train and the train struck the vehicle, throwing it into the north ditch. Jorgensen’s vehicle came to rest east of the intersection. Jorgensen was transported by Stuart Rescue to a Des Moines hospital for treatment of possible injuries. Jorgensen’s vehicle was totaled, and $10,000 in damage was estimated to the Iowa Interstate Railroad locomotive. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
