Emergency crews were called to Highway 141 in Perry near the Raccoon River Valley Trail crossing Saturday night on a report of a car on fire.
The incident was reported at just before 11 p.m. The car in question was on the left-hand shoulder of the eastbound lanes, and when the Perry Fire Department arrived the front half was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in around 30 minutes and had the scene cleaned up shortly after that. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but the occupants of the car were unharmed. While crews were battling the fire, the eastbound traffic on 141 was blocked completely, backing motorists up to the Hy-Vee parking lot. The car was a total loss.
The Perry Police Department also responded to the scene. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
