Now that the weather has warmed up, it’s a great time to get outdoors, and one activity that lends itself to social distancing is fishing.

Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says the County is limited on public fishing locations, but there are two popular areas including Spring Lake Park and the Raccoon River.

“There’s a fair number of people catching walleyes in early March before the river came up. So the river is always good (for) catfish, you can always catch catfish there. Spring Lake, if you just wanted an easy and accessible place where you can catch little bluegills, maybe an occasional keeper bass and catfish.”

Towers adds, those 16 and older must have a valid fishing license in Iowa, which the regulations have not been changed due to COVID-19. Fishing licenses can be obtained online through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources website.
