Farm equipment is becoming more prevalent on the roadways and so it’s a good time for safety reminders when traveling.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reminds motorists that farm implements are bigger than normal vehicles and can take up more of the road. He urges everyone to be aware of farm equipment, especially coming over hilltops, because they can suddenly appear on the road. Williams points out that speed is a major factor when encountering farm machinery on the roadway.

“Tractors slow down a lot faster than most cars do without any brake lights or signals of any sort, they just throttle down and it slows up really quickly. We have had several accidents the last few years involving (farm) implements where people are rear ending into them, or go to pass and catch a piece of the implement on the back of their vehicle. Just make sure you are passing safely.”

Williams adds to be aware if farm equipment is approaching a field drive because they are likely to turn into the drive.
