It’s no secret that over the last several years the City of Perry has been making an effort to improve its neighborhoods.
Their next step in that process is now off and running, as the City has partnered with Region XII Council of Governments for an exterior home improvement grant program. Applications are now being accepted for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, which will allow Perry residents to perform home repairs on the outsides of their houses. Eligible projects include: lead-based paint reduction; roof or window replacement; siding; foundation repair; and installation or replacement of gutters.
Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, though there are a few restrictions. Homes cannot be purchased through a land contract, must have current homeowners insurance, and must be current on property taxes. Additionally, applicants will need to verify their yearly household income to ensure they fall below the maximum income restriction. Eligible residents can receive up to $24,999 in funds through a five-year forgivable loan. Perry staff encourages the public to inquire about and take advantage of the program, which they believe will go a long way towards improving the City’s overall aesthetic.
The deadline to apply is April 23rd, and applications can be acquired by reaching out to Region XII Executive Secretary JoAnn Olberding by email at jolberding@region12cog.org or by phone at 712-792-9914.
