This week is ISU Extension and Outreach Week, though the observances have had to be altered as their county offices are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Jerry Chizek, the Interim Regional Extension Education Director for Dallas County, says they’ve been active throughout the week on social media, offering an assortment of quizzes and prizes for the public, as well as general information on the organization. Chizek emphasizes that though the local offices are closed, Extension is still active in the community during the current crisis, as they have been for past global issues. “You know right now with the COVID-19 (pandemic) going on, we think it’s really important that Extension and Outreach is out there still maintaining a relationship with our clients, and looking forward to building new relationships. People will remember agencies and groups that help them through the tough times, and this is not the first time that Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has been involved in tough times. And so, yes, this is a different ISU Extension Week this year, but the goal is still the same: to let people know that we’re here and willing to provide information to help them.”
