While Iowa is in the minority of states that has not issued an order for citizens to stay home during the COVID-19 pandemic, State House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen believes the state is on the right track for flattening the curve.
The shelter-in-place or stay-at-home orders requires people to remain in their homes except for essential work and travel, and at one point the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci stated that he didn’t understand why some governors like Kim Reynolds haven’t issued such an order. Sorensen, who represents Adair, Guthrie, and portions of Cass and Dallas counties commented on how he believes Iowa is doing in containing COVID-19, “Her proclamations are working better than most shelter-in-place orders. You know the problem has been with folks ignoring the orders, and unfortunately you can’t fix stupid with words, you know whether it’s a proclamation or a shelter-in-place. So we need to step up as Iowans and help our friends and neighbors understand the importance of mitigating the spread of this virus.”
So far, Governor Reynolds has ordered the closures of schools and many businesses until April 30th, as well as libraries, campgrounds, and outdoor/indoor children’s play centers. You can hear more from Sorensen during today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program on air and at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
