With colder temperatures happening next week, it might put a damper on gardening and planting plans.

Jeanne Myers with the Jefferson Garden Club says if frost is a worry for people and they want to keep any flowers or other plants protected, to cover them overnight. She talks about some precautions to take if you are covering plants.

“Keep in mind that anything you put directly on it might weigh it down. So you might put some type of a structure over it first like a bucket, you can cover it with blankets if you’ve got some type of a wire structure over it to keep it from weighing down.”

Myers suggests not putting plastic products directly onto plants to cover them because plastic will concentrate the cold and frost onto the plant and could end up severely damaging it. The National Weather Service is calling for daytime highs to be in the 40s and overnight lows to be in the 20s for the majority of next week.
