Off the heels of Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation giving away $1.4 million in grants for 2020, the GGCGC Board is now gearing up for another big vote.
Board President Norm Fandel says a final vote will take place next year for whether or not Greene County keeps a casino.
“After seven years of the first vote (for a casino) we do have to take a second vote, and it’s the final vote that is taking, in order for Greene County to maintain a license for gambling.”
The vote is part of the protocols put in place by the state legislature. Greene County voters first approved of the casino referendum in August of 2013 with 75-percent approval. It was the largest majority of “yes” votes for a casino in Iowa’s history. Since then, Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson has allocated five-percent of its adjusted gross revenue to Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation, the gaming-license holder of the casino. GGCGC has given away over $6.5 million in five years through grant funds to projects.
