With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing across the globe, there might be some concern that the new high school and career academy project with the Greene County School District is being hampered by the virus restrictions.

The District’s Owner Representative Sam Harding says the project has not been adversely impacted by the virus.

“The contractors have a whole bunch of policies they’re following to keep their employees safe. But from a large part out here when you’re on a site like this (there’s) a lot of work on your own, and you’re six feet away from the next guy a lot of the time anyway. Any meetings we’re having, we’re having them in great big spaces where we can all spread out or over the phone. But as far as the work, it hasn’t impacted the timeline at all.”

Harding points out the career academy and high school remain on target to be open by this August. He notes virtually all structures are enclosed. The career academy walls have been painted and the furnishings are being installed, and the high school has drywall being installed and painted.

Harding adds, the budget remains on target and the few changes orders the School Board has approved have not negatively impacted the overall budget. The work is being done by general contractor Hankel Construction.
