In response to the always-evolving landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Perry has elected to suspend bulky item curbside pickup for the foreseeable future.
Perry officials say in an effort to keep their employees healthy, they will no longer accept household bulky items, appliances, and extra garbage bags outside of garbage containers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found that the virus can survive on some objects from inside the home for up to 72 hours after its been removed. As such, City employees will no longer handle any such items placed on the curb until further notice. The regular garbage pickup will continue, however, as will the free dumpster rental service, commercial dumpster service, yard waste collection, and the recycling drop-off locations.
The community junk drop-off day remains scheduled for Saturday, June 6th, but officials will assess the situation as the date gets closer before considering postponement. For more information on the City of Perry waste collection, contact City Hall at 515-465-2481.
