Wednesday was the deadline for candidates to file for county-specific seats in the June primary election, and there will be one contested race in Dallas County.
This year’s ballot includes the District Two representative on the Board of Supervisors, as well as County Auditor and Sheriff. In what will be the only contested primary in the County, Democrats Katherine Fuller and Michael Kern, both of Waukee, are vying for the party’s nomination for Supervisor. The winner will challenge incumbent Supervisor Mark Hanson of Waukee, who is running unopposed on the Republican side. For the other two offices, incumbent Republicans Julia Helm of Adel and Chad Leonard of Dallas Center are the only registered candidates on either side of the ticket for Auditor and Sheriff, respectively.
Dallas County Elections Commissioner Kim Owen points out, the candidates won’t officially be set until April 1st. The withdrawal deadline is March 27th, the objection deadline is the 30th, and the substitution deadline is the 31st. The primary election is scheduled for June 2nd, and the general election will be November 3rd.
