In light of most area schools and libraries closing for the foreseeable future due to the COVID-19 outbreak, educators and librarians are encouraging families to seek other means to keep their children engaged in learning.

In particular, Perry Public Library Director Mary Murphy invites people to read with celebrities. The Storyline Online program is operated through the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), and features free programs led by the union actors. The literacy resource includes an activity guide with each video, as well as lessons for K-5 students to do at home. Actors featured in Storyline Online include: David Harbour from “Stranger Things”; Kristen Bell from “Frozen”; Chris Pine from “Star Trek”; and Oprah Winfrey.

As a reminder, all spring break programs at the Perry and Adel libraries have been cancelled, and the libraries will remain closed indefinitely. However, the Dallas County Library Association points out that each library also has numerous online resources, including e-books, audiobooks, and digital learning tools.
