The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, the Board discussed the novel coronavirus with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Greene County Ambulance, asking if there were possible restrictions if their employees were to be quarantined. The Board then gave permission to have the Greene County Courthouse and the surrounding grounds open for the 8th annual Market-to-Market Relay that will take place on May 9th.
Additionally during open forum, Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers gave an update on one of the boat access points that was damaged last year from the ice jams. He asked the Board about moving the current McMahon Access along the Raccoon River about 2.5 miles north, due to the damaged area not being suitable for repair work. He added the new boat access would be located on ground that the Iowa Department of Natural Resources currently owns and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) would pay for the project. The Board agreed with the proposal.
The Board then recognized Towers for his 35 years of service to the County with a certificate from the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC). Next the Board approved hiring Ashley Wilson as a full-time deputy with the sheriff’s office with a $46,000 salary and an additional $1,000 to be added when she is a certified deputy through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. The Board also approved hiring Krysty Kuebler-Melton as a part-time dispatcher with the sheriff’s office for $15 per hour.
Next, the Board approved the County’s insurance carrier, Wellmark’s recommendation for a waiver for county employees to be tested for the coronavirus and have it covered by the insurance company. Finally, the Board set March 23rd at 9am as the date and time to receive bids for an improvement project in drainage district 187.
