novel-coronavirus

With the recent news of the novel coronavirus being elevated to “community spread” several precautions are being taken in Iowa.

Governor Kim Reynolds announced the “community spread” of coronavirus over the weekend when an individual in Dallas County tested positive for the virus and the source of the illness could not be confirmed. Reynolds then announced her recommendation for all schools to be closed for four weeks to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Greene County School District Superintendent Tim Christensen says the district is currently on spring break this week. However, all district athletic and activity practices have immediately been suspended until further notice. The administrators and staff will be meeting this week to determine the next steps based on Governor Reynolds recommendations.

Paton-Churdan School District Superintendent Kreg Lensch says they are complying with Governor Reynolds recommendation and will be closed through April 13th. The district is currently on spring break this week.

Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and the Iowa Department of Public Health is encouraging people to constantly wash their hands with warm water and soap, use hand sanitizer, cover coughs and stay home if sick.
