Greene County returns a number of accomplished track & field athletes for the 2020 campaign. Coach Chad Morton’s boys opened the indoor season on Tuesday with some fine performances inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls at the A.D. Dickinson Relays.

Seniors Colby Kafer and Carter Morton are the two most decorated Rams from 2019 having placed high at the Class 2A state meet in Des Moines in the jumps. Kafer was second in the long jump and Morton third in the high jump.

On Tuesday, Morton won the high jump, was fifth in the 60 meter hurdles,and placed fourteenth in the long jump, an event he competed in just once a season ago. Kafer was sixth in the long jump. In all, the Rams entered eight events.

Morton went 6′ 5″ to win the high jump inside the UNI-Dome among a field of 84. He ran the 60 hurdles in 8.34 seconds to place fifth among more than 130 competitors. The long jump had 138 athletes and two of the top 14 were Kafer, who went 21′ 7″, and Morton, whose best leap was 20′ 4 “.

The Dickinson Relays are a one class non-scoring meet with schools of all sizes from various parts of the state.
