The City of Perry is entering a transition phase for an important staff position, with City Clerk Paula Rychnovsky set to retire at the end of the current fiscal year.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says he understands Rychnovsky’s desire for retirement and feels they received ample warning of her departure, but he says finding a new clerk will not be an easy task. “As part of this budget process, Paula announced that she would be retiring somewhere around the end of June. So we need to get on the hiring process so that we can get somebody on board, so that she can have a little bit of time to train that person. Whoever the replacement is has some big shoes to fill. Paula has been so wonderful to have upstairs as the City Clerk, and she’ll definitely be missed. But we’re expecting her to come back and visit often!”
At their recent meeting, the Perry City Council kicked off the search process by approving an amended job description, in order to properly encompass everything Rychnovsky does as clerk. The opening has already been posted to the city’s website and other city-specific staffing portals, and Peterson says interviews should begin later this month. He then hopes to have the new clerk hired in April so they can start training in May.
