Scranton Manufacturing is continuing to clean up and rebuild following a fire that caused extensive damage last week.

Vice President of Sales and Marketing for New Way Trucks and McLaughlin Family Companies Don Ross says the cause of last Monday night’s fire hasn’t been determined, but a spark ignited materials in one of the paint booths, where employees were painting parts when the fire started. Ross points out no one was hurt and he thanks the first responder agencies that helped put out the fire.

“I would like to take a moment and extend our sincerest thanks to all of the local fire companies, and all of the first responders that were on site. Many of our employees are firefighters and they along with their coworkers really worked tirelessly to protect the facility. I would also like to thank the local communities for their outreach.”

The incident has affected operations of the garbage truck manufacturer. Ross says they have temporarily relocated the sales, accounting, engineering, product planning, scheduling and service departments to other facilities and locations. However, Ross adds, the welding and fabrication departments have not been restored yet. He addresses the issue of some employees not yet being able to work.

“Employee pay and benefits have not been interrupted and employees will not be asked to use any paid time off. Our primary objective is to get everyone back to work as soon as possible.”

Several area fire departments responded to the fire at 11:23pm on February 23rd. Crews worked for four hours putting out the flames. Ross says professional cleaning crews have been on site since last weekend as they look to get about 75-percent of the facility up and running within two weeks.
