The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union begins its 2020 State Tournament today at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference will be represented in two of the five classes. League Champion North Polk (Alleman) in back in the Class 3A field after finishing in second place last season. The Comets are 19-5, the number 5 seed and are led by junior Maggie Phipps, who has committed to play in college at Drake University. NP plays Red Oak (21-3) in the quarterfinals today at 6:45 p.m.

Gilbert qualified in the 4A field as the number 7 seed. The Tigers  are 19-3 and they’ll faced number 2 Glenwood (24-0) on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. in a quarterfinal round match up.

Greene County went a combined 0-4 during the HOIAC season vs. NP and Gilbert and none of the game were close. The Comets and Tigers are leaving the HOIAC after summer baseball and softball are over to join the Raccoon River Activities Conference.
