Jazzatonics performing at the Jefferson Area Chamber Annual Dinner

A local high school jazz choir recently qualified for the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships.

The Greene County High School Jazzatonics were selected for a second consecutive year. The group had to submit a recording of their performance to be considered. Senior Kirsten Lamoureux describes her initial reaction to finding out they made it back to IVJC.

“I was really excited. We put the work in and we just hoped for the best, but it’s just really exciting.”

Greene County will compete against seven other Class 3A schools including: two groups from Solon, Spencer, Spirit Lake, Mount Vernon and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn. Last year, Greene County finished 8th. Senior Braden Cerveny has been with the jazz choir his entire high school career. He talks about why he enjoys the activity.

“When I joined I did not know what I was getting into, but ever since I thought it’s been great, so I just kept going. There’s some great people in our group and just a great time to be with them.”

The IVJC will take place on March 24th at Staplin Performing Arts Center in West Des Moines.
