An overnight fire severely damaged a Scranton-based business.
According to Greene County Dispatch, the Scranton, Jefferson, Glidden, Ralston, and Carroll fire departments, along with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Greene County Ambulance, Black Hills Energy and Alliant Energy responded to the blaze at 11:23pm Monday at Scranton Manufacturing. Scranton Fire Chief Doug Duff told Raccoon Valley Radio the fire started one of the paint booths in the main building. Duff said when they arrived on scene, fire could be seen from Highway 30.
Duff pointed out they could hear explosions coming from the storage room from the paints and paint thinners. Duff estimated the amount of damage to be over $1 million. Due to the extent of the damage, the State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating.
Since then, the company has been operational since Wednesday. However, some departments and employees have been temporarily relocated to the Carroll location and other Scranton facilities. New Way Trucks CEO Mike McLaughlin released a statement saying, “We are thankful that no one was injured during the incident, and we are proud of our employee-family as they rally to get us back to full operation as quickly as possible.”
Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
