Jefferson Matters: Main Street recently recognized key volunteers with a ceremony.

The Annual Volunteer Appreciation Party was held at The Forge Fellowship Hall in Jefferson earlier this month. The main highlight was the 2019 Leadership Award, which went to Jeff Lamoureux. Known as “Jeff from Jefferson,” Lamoureux interviews various JMMS members, volunteers and downtown businesses to promote the Main Street program and businesses in general. The videos are available on YouTube.

The five teams of JMMS also selected volunteers to honor. The Design Team chose Ann Ober and Deb Kucerak for their work on the downtown planters. Dan and Britt Meythaler were selected by the Economic Vitality Team for using their downtown business to host several events and being instrumental in the Big Dream Gathering last fall.

The Organization Team recognized Tracy Deal for doing the “behind-the-scenes” work for several events such as hosting the Silicon Valley executives last year, the Main Street Iowa annual meeting in the fall and the grand opening of The Forge in Jefferson. Angie Reece-Hueser was chosen by the Promotions Team for her work on the Amazing Race for Charity, Trick-or-Treat Around the Square, Scarecrow Invasion and chairing the Christmas Tree Lighting event. Finally, the Tower View Team recognized Angie Gingery for her volunteering for several events and activities, such as coordinating the Scarecrow Invasion contest.

The event was to say ‘thank you’ to all JMMS volunteers who are involved with the board of directors and teams. In 2019, over 5,200 volunteer hours were logged and submitted to Main Street Iowa from Jefferson.
