The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is offering a new service to residents that will allow them to more easily provide tips to law enforcement.

“Text-A-Tip” allows people to submit anonymous information to the Sheriff’s Office through their phone. Whistleblowers can text the number 515-559-7790, giving them the option of withholding their personal information from officers. The Sheriff’s Office encourages people to use “Text-A-Tip” to report unlawful activities, such as: the sale or use of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs by underage individuals; vandalism or destruction of property; theft or shoplifting; and other crimes for which a person would prefer to report anonymously.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that the text number is not to be used to request emergency help, and if you need immediate assistance you should still dial 911.
