Thursday night’s match-up between two rivals, Adel-DeSoto-Minburn and Dallas Center-Grimes, was nothing short of the intense contest it was hyped up to be.

A game of runs, spirts, and a lightning fast pace had to eventually end, and fortunately, for DC-G they were able to survive the furious Tiger run in the third quarter of play.

DC-G took a 3 point lead into the halftime intermission, and then came out firing on all cylinders to begin the third frame.  In the first 2 minutes of the 3rd quarter, the Mustangs stretched their lead all the way up 10, leading 39-29.

However, ADM wouldn’t surrender without a fight.  Tiger guard, Nate Mueller put together a 12-0 run all by himself.  Mueller found gold from downtown three times, and then hit 3 free throws to give ADM the lead heading into the 4th quarter.

DC-G trailed by 5 points with under 4 minutes to play, but the Mustang crowd rallied the team and DC-G was able to muster enough defensive stops to solidify the victory.

Alex Thomas, Cody Hall, and Cole Glasgow were all in double figures for DC-G on Thursday.

The Mustangs survive and advance to the Substate Final on Monday where they will face Norwalk for the third time this season.  For Joel Rankin and his team, they hope that the third time will be the charm.  DC-G fell on the road at Norwalk 78-55, and in Grimes 66-56.  If DC-G wishes to get past Norwalk and advance to Wells Fargo Arena for the State Tournament, they’ll need to find an answer for UNI recruit, Bowen Born, and Tyler Johnson, who combined for 49 of the team’s 66 total points.

Game time is set for Monday evening at 7:00pm from Valley High School in West Des Moines.  If you’re unable to attend, tune in for live, play-by-play coverage on 99.7FM or AM1310 KDLS.  The game can also be streamed online at RaccoonValleyRadio.com or on the free KDLS mobile app.
