A special Jefferson City Council election to fill a vacancy is next week and there are two candidates on the ballot.
One of those candidates is Jefferson resident Sean Sebourn. He graduated from Jefferson-Scranton High School in 2003. After graduation, he went to Italy for four years. In 2007 Sebourn returned to Jefferson where he married his wife Miranda and started his home-based business Sebourn Video Services in 2008.
Sebourn wants to be a voice on the council that supports Mayor Matt Gordon’s endeavor to finish renovating the downtown city-owned buildings and have a purchaser lined up. He also wants to look at the City’s budget and learn why decisions were made, like an over $10,000 expense to have a company put on and take off the City’s swimming pool cover.
“I’m certain that the majority of the taxpayers of Jefferson would agree with me that this $10,000 operation should not be entertained. I know the pool is an important part of our community so we need to take care of it but finding more cost effective ways to do it would be in our best interest. Again I would like to dig deeper into the options for the pool as well as the other departments we fund.”
Sebourn wants to help Jefferson grow by serving in the community and believes city council members need to be more visible and be more involved in community activities. Sebourn is being challenged by Pat Zmolek in the March 3rd election. To hear more from Sebourn listen to today’s Community State Bank in Paton Let’s Talk Greene County program.
