A Winterset man died as a result of a two-vehicle wreck in Adair County Thursday.

According to Iowa State Patrol, 47-year-old Darrell Wain Smith was driving a Chevy Silverado west on Highway 92 near Pinewood Avenue at about 6:37 a.m. For unknown reasons Smith’s vehicle went into the eastbound lane and struck a semi truck head on, driven by 44-year-old Jeremy Criswell Houck of Corning. Smith’s vehicle then spun around into the west bound lane and came to a rest. The semi jack-knifed, coming to a rest in the south ditch. Smith was transported by Adair County Ambulance to Greenfield, where he died as a result of his injuries, and Houck was airlifted by Life Flight to Iowa Methodist Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
