The Perry Public Library is no stranger to holding book discussions, but this month they will be hosting the first in a health series, which will run the rest of the year.
Library Director Mary Murphy says the event is part of a national initiative, and promises it will be very informative. “Well the National Network of Libraries of Medicine have different months, and February is Heart Health Month. And what we’re going to do is we have a book: ‘Heart: A History.’ It’s pretty interesting in that it kind of chronologically lays out how open heart surgery came to be, and who were the pioneers in open heart surgery.”
Copies of the book can be checked out at the library ahead of the discussion, which will be on Monday, February 24th at 7 p.m. in the Carnegie Library Museum. Dallas County Hospital Education Manager Sally Swenson will also be on hand for the event, giving free heart health screenings. There is no registration required for the program, and it’s open to all ages. Future health-related book talks will be held in May and November.
