The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.

During open forum, a few residents and trustees from the Des Moines Township came to raise concerns about the horses frequently getting loose at a neighboring farm, which has gained notoriety recently because of suspected poor living conditions for the animals. The action items began with three topics involving the Human Resources Department. First, the Board approved the payroll change notices as presented, as well as continuing pay plan review services through Condrey and Associates. They then tabled action on a scanning contract with Advantage Archives.

At 9:30 a.m. there was a public hearing on a resolution to dispose of six vacant Secondary Roads Department buildings. The Supervisors wanted to give some further clarification on the process with help from County Attorney Chuck Sinnard, who was not in attendance, so they tabled the hearing and other related items to next Tuesday. The Board then held a second public hearing to review bids received for the new courtroom project at the courthouse. Once again, they wanted to consult with Sinnard on an error that was made by one of the bidders, so they continued the hearing to next week.

Items that were approved included a wetland credit allocation of .34 acres to the City of West Des Moines, and the purchases of two pickup trucks and a soil compactor attachment for the Roads Department. The Supervisors also gave consensus to draft a contract with Harney Commercial Services for the renovation of the building at 910 Court Street in Adel. The Board also discussed but took no action on items including: the transfer of the Treasurer’s Office’s old number queuing system to another county; equipment and shelving at 910 Court Street for the Auditor’s Office; and a 28E agreement with Central Iowa Workforce Development, Region 11. The meeting concluded with a closed session to discuss purchase of real estate.
