An Iowa House subcommittee recently passed a bill that would prohibit local ordinances from being stricter than state law for gun accessories such as high capacity magazines.

The legislation also includes that if local governments ban weapons at public buildings, they must also provide screening and armed security. State House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen (R) shares his thoughts on the bill, “This is coming down to are second amendment rights important? Who has control, I guess, of that? You know are we going to have counties and cities, everybody making wildly different laws about who can carry, who can’t, who can have it there, who can’t? Or are we going to allow the state to make a uniform law to provide clarity.”

The bill also includes a provision that would allow judges to ban weapons only in courtrooms, not in other public areas of courthouses. To hear more from Sorensen on this bill, listen to Monday’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
