Tuesday night saw the final varsity girl/boy basketball doubleheader in the gymnasium the Rams have called home dating back to when the Rams were the Ramblers. North Polk swept Greene County in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference twin bill, 68-19 in the girls’ game, and 71-68 in the boys. Both games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
The Rams led the boys’ game 38-35 at halftime and 43-35 early in the third quarter. The Comets out scored the home team 23-15 in the fourth quarter and swept the two game season series from the Rams. Sophomore Jevin Sullivan had one of the top scoring performances in the long history of the gymnasium here with 49 points. Sullivan entered the contest with a scoring average 18.8 points and had 25 by halftime, He sank nine three-point goals Tuesday, and in two games this season vs. Greene County had 85 points. The Comets finished the HOIAC campaign at 7-7 and they improved to 7-11 overall.
Senior Carter Morton had a career best seven three-pointers en route to 33 points to go with the 29 he scored at NP in December. Sophomore Bryce Stalder scored 15 points for the Rams, who fell to 2-11 in the conference and 4-16 overall.
NP is ranked eighth in Class 3A for girls and the 16-5 Comets won the HOIAC title outright with a 13-1 record. The Rams ended the regular season with a 2-19 record and 2-12 in the conference. Freshman Makayla Boatman scored 18 points for NP and junior Maggie Phipps added 15. Senior Izzy Bravard had eight points for the Rams. Senior Kassie Lamoureux scored the first basket of the game. She tore knee ligaments in the first two minutes of the season opener in late November at Ogden and had subsequent surgery. Lamoureux exited the game shortly after getting the first bucket of the night.
Greene County will host Saydel (Des Moines) in boys’ only action in the middle school gym this Friday in the last varsity basketball game to be played there. The action an be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
