The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School Board convened Monday evening in regular session.
The meeting began with the Focus on Learning section, which included discussion on the college and career ready program at the high school, school performance profiles, collaborative teams and SMART goals, and a preview of this week’s Experiencing Success Today Conference. The action items began with a public hearing on the 2020-21 school calendar. There were no objections, so the Board approved the calendar as presented. There was then a second public hearing on the proposed plans, specifications, and contract for the new elementary school in Adel. Later in the meeting, the Board awarded the bid to Core Structural, in the amount of $16.9 million. Superintendent Greg Dufoe said the bid was above their expected price, but the difference will be made up using Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) funds.
Following that, the Board approved the purchase of a new school bus from Hoglund, in the amount of $101,000. They also rescinded a previously awarded contract for chemical waste disposal, and awarded it to the true low bidder, which was Tradebe for $5,004.05. That was followed by approval of a gift of commissioned art: a fiberglass tiger statue to be placed in front of the middle school and paid for by the ADM Alumni Association. Other items approved included: an addendum to staff handbooks regarding worker’s compensation procedures; appointing Rod Collins and Nikki West to the negotiation team; and two additional elementary special education teachers for the 2020-21 school year. The meeting concluded with a discussion on the next fiscal year’s budget, and an update on the activities director search.
