Those preparing for the 2020 planting season are encouraged to attend this month’s Farmers Coffee hosted by Guthrie County Extension and Outreach.

Extension hosts this event monthly during the winter season with a different expert to talk about an agriculture-related topic. This month’s speakers are Extension Field Agronomist Mike Witt and Iowa Corn Growers Association Guthrie County Board member Ryan Steffensen. Witt plans on presenting the results from ISU Extension’s on-farm demonstration trials, “We’ve looked at different products, different biostimulant products, different nitrogen enhancement products and other things along those lines. We’ve also looked at different population trials as far as corn and soybeans populations. We have looked at cover crop trials, 60 inch versus 30 row trials. We’ve also done some things with planter speed and other types of mechanical experiments as well, but it’s kind of all over the board. We’ve got a little bit of everything for everybody.”

Witt also anticipates talking about spring cover crops and nutrient applications, and other topics of interest to attendees. The discussion will last from 9:30-11 a.m. this Friday at the Extension office in Guthrie Center. The event is free and open to the public, and coffee and treats will be provided.
