It was quite a change in temperatures from this past weekend to this week, with daytime highs around the freezing point and the overnight lows expected to be below freezing. With that in mind, here are some reminders to keep your body protected from the freezing temperatures.

Family Practice Physician with the Greene County Family Practice Clinic Dr. Laurie Connolly reminds everyone to dress in layers and make sure areas like hands, feet and head are covered. She advises not to use certain products on your face for additional protection.

“A lot of people think that putting ointment or lotions on their face may help protect them from frostbite, but actually it’s the opposite of that. They want to make sure they’re not using ointments or lotions to their face. There’s some liquid in those that can freeze and then worsen frostbite or skin damage.”

Dr. Connolly adds, when temperatures are below freezing, people should limit time outdoors.
