Student athletes and community members have been showing their support in the fight against cancer this month in Guthrie County.
Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center and Panorama schools have recently had Pink Out events at basketball games, as well as a lasagna supper fundraiser from the “Panthers on the Prowl for a Cure” Relay for Life team. The proceeds from these fundraisers go to Relay for Life of Guthrie County, which raises funds for the American Cancer Society’s work in cancer research. The next couple months will be especially busy for the chapter, as its annual relay event has been moved from later this summer to April 4th. American Cancer Society Senior Community Development Manager Kim Durst says this follows shortly after another annual Relay for Life event, the “St. Paddy’s Day – Kiss the Blarney Stone” bowling tournament, “More information will be coming out for that but we decided we would keep that date, even though Relay is two weeks after that but we thought that would be a great way to kick off and get everybody fired up for the Relay for Life.”
The tournament will be held on March 14th at the Incredibowl in Guthrie Center. Durst says they moved the Relay for Life event to April in order to avoid busy summer activities. This will be the 21st year for Guthrie County’s event, with the theme “Hope Grows Here.”
