A long dormant facility in the City of Minburn will be getting some use soon, thanks to an agreement with the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District.
The District approved a lease agreement with the City and the Minburn Public Library for the latter to use the old Minburn Elementary building. Superintendent Greg Dufoe says he’s happy they could help out the local library, while also helping the District with some of their financial needs. “It’s been the result of a lot of time working with those folks, and it’s went really well. And of course they’ll occupy what was the library, you know the library space with some related classrooms and office space that are in that same, general area. So we’re excited for them to get in there, it’ll be great for the kids in Minburn and make really good use of some of that space.”
Minburn Elementary closed in 2010, as enrollment was declining in the District and funds from the state were tight. ADM’s fortunes have since reversed and the District is now growing at a fever pitch. However, when the administration examined possibilities to address that growth, the Minburn building was not considered a viable option, so it stayed vacant.
