A Jefferson man faces multiple drug and weapon charges following an incident on Friday.
According to the Jefferson Police Department, 53-year-old Robert Barnard is charged with a Class D Felony for possession of a firearm by a felon, a serious misdemeanor for his first offense for possession of marijuana and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges stem from a report from his mother’s residence in the 300 block of West Washington Street.
A family member reported finding the narcotic-related items and a firearm while in Barnard’s room. Officers seized the items and conducted interviews with witnesses and Barnard, who admitted to possessing the items, that included a modified .22 caliber rifle with a banana clip. Barnard was then arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail, where he was later released on his own recognizance.
